Select Music’s 7th Birthday

Sydney-based Select Music is a multi-functional music company.  Even if the name doesn’t ring a bell, you’re bound to have had plenty of contact with them if you enjoy Aussie music. Their reach covers artist management, touring, venue consultancy and event promotion. With a seemingly never-ending roster (including Boy and Bear, Midnight Juggernauts, Tim Finn and Bluejuice), they are proud to have helped to unearth some of Australia’s top talent in recent years.

A charity fundraiser for beyondblue, the shindig will be held at four of the Oxford St precinct’s hottest venues, with a tantalising smorgasbord of Australia’s best musicians showing their wares over the evening.

Maids Kill It On Stage

Last night we ducked into the charming Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst to view a highly anticipated ‘Enigma‘ produced performance of ‘The Maids’.

This darkly devilish story of two sisters that conspire to murder their Madame and free themselves from their suffocating oppression is surprisingly intriguing and at times shocking, with the cast of Emily Elise, Brinley Meyer & Alison Lee Rubie outshining each other through complexly multifaceted roles. Lets just say, the seat you purchase won’t be needed as you will only use the very edge anyway.

‘The Maids’ plays  this week until Sunday night and is well worth a look in.  Pop in early, have a stroll through the gallery and a tipple of champers. Tickets are just $25 and can be bought online at moshtix or at the door, but get in early!

And don’t forget to keep your eye on the fantastic costume design by yours truly!

One of our favourite venues in Darlo Lo-fi Collective has announced that the venue will be under construction in the lead up to accommodate the introduction of live music (YAY!) But don’t worry kids, it will still be pumping for the next 7 weeks with some awesome shows leading up to the new space. They will still incorporate the visual arts in future, however their shows will not be as frequent as they are now. So get to it people and indulge in some awesome arty shit.
