Oh. My. Blog!

Just when we thought our lives were complete, we stumbled
across this curiously geeky blog. Lego 365. The
name says it all; one LEGO based photograph a day for a year. Run
by a very interesting guy that just happens to love photography and
LEGO. Crushing on this site hard-core at the moment.

“Well,” said the Inspector, “it’s
burning my retina.”

Frank Zappa – A True Rock Legend!

If you don’t know Frank, you probably should. This guy is a rock god! And today we celebrate his 70th birthday.

Zappa played most of his career with or under the band name ‘The mothers of invention’ (usually and eventually shortened to ‘The Mothers’) and was inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame after his death.

Mostly an independent artist, he was also a film composer and a music producer, who practically lived in his studio (which he had to forfeit eventually to financial ruin after entrapment by local police, based on unfounded suspicions he was producing pornographic materials).

Influenced by classical composers, r&b and jazz, Zappa wrote and produced his own music and that of many local artists.

But what we love the most about our main man Zap, is the fact that he was one of those unwavering artists that would not sacrifice his musical integrity for anything. So much so, that he was often involved in law suits, including volunteering himself as a representative for the state against censorship laws. He was famously quoted stating “What do you make of a society that is so primitive, that it clings to the belief that certain words in its language are so powerful that they could corrupt you the moment you hear them?” And we agree with you Frank.

Zappa’s refusal to compromise on his lurid and sometimes absurd lyrics along with a reluctance to perform classical revivals from his albums, resulted in law suits with Warner Bros, keeping a chunk of his music unreleased for several years, some even until after his death. Rebellious as he was, he bypassed this legal issue by playing his music over an independent radio station, encouraging listeners to tape record his music. His priority was the music and not money.

He is so loved, that even the fine residents of the city of Baltimore, Maryland USA celebrate a public holiday in his name! (We intend to talk to Miss Gillard about joining them!).

And if you weren’t yet convinced that Franky here is the most wonderfully looney king of all artists, then his kids live on as proof – Moon unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen. WOW. His wife and family took over his affairs after his death in 1993. This is their official website and homage to all things Zappa.

Never before have we seen such an eclectic and absurd collection of images. Here is just a few of our favourites.

Can you say sex?

Alannah Hill Rocks A New Look

Alannah Hill has recruited the very talented swedish artist Veronica Ballart, who created these four amazing watercolour  illustrations, to use in a revamp of all stores, including windows, posters, bags and all other things wonderfully Alannah Hill. They will also to be featured  on her upcoming online store due to launch in March next year.

We think they are super cute and their whimsical beauty and wonderfully wild pink and violet tones have even inspired us to feature similar images on our own website which is also in construction for launch next year.
