The magazines and catwalks are in consensus: 2012 summer fashion is officially decided. For a comprehensive guide to summer style, look no further! It won’t be a surprise to many of you to learn that skinny jeans are still officially “in”. This is the third year of the skinny jean revolution; and although we’ve seen many variants on the fundamentals – jeggings, leather and cord – the basic style is still the same. A narrow legged pant, usually in denim or cotton; and they come in either skinny or super-skinny widths. Although super-skinny is best avoided unless you’ve got the legs of a stick-thick supermodel, skinny jeans are definitely still the number one trend among young celebrity women. Kim Kardashian, Scarlett Johansson and Miley Cyrus have all been spotted rocking the skinny jean this summer.
2011 marked the advent of a seventies renaissance, and 2012 looks no different so far. All shades of tan, from camel to ecru, characterize this season’s palette. Warm terracotta tones, big hair and aviator shades are all featured heavily in the Spring/Summer collections of many designers this year. Additionally, the 70′s younger sister has made a comeback – 80′s fashion is going to be big this summer. We’re talking animal prints, booty shorts, golden hoops and pastel shades. Already, skinny jeans in a rainbow of ice-cream colors have hit the shelves: a feminine and funky way to revitalize a traditional pair of jeans.
A typical summer outfit of 2012 would feature a pair of pastel colored skinny jeans, perhaps in a shade of mint green or lemon yellow. A funky flower patterned top and some plastic bead jewelry would accessorize this cute and quirky daytime ensemble. The look would be finished off with a pair of matching pastel deck shoes. This look can also be easily transformed into a night look – the canvas shoes exchanged for a pair of gold strappy heels; the big hair slicked up into a ponytail and the flower patterned top traded in favor of a sophisticated shirt or blouse. All that’s left to do is exchange the plastic beads for some gold jewelry; and the day to night transition is achieved.
The beach fashion of 2012 is all about accessories. Who says that going to the sandy shore has to just be about swimming? Maybe hit up the Hamptons for the whole beach experience! Many beach-goers set out their towel or lounger, and are perfectly contented to sunbathe throughout the day. That’s why the key beach look of the summer is about accessorizing. Pair that swimsuit with a sarong in a complementary shade, finished off with a pair of Roman gladiator sandals or flip-flops. A hat is the essential finishing touch to any shoreline outfit. The range of beach hats is comprehensive – a funky bikini would look great teamed with a sporty baseball cap; just as a stylish and elegant suit would be perfectly suited to a wide brimmed straw hat, 1950′s starlet style. Many people are also choosing to wear their beach dresses as day outfits – why not get one that matches your suit? Many clubbers in beach cities – such as Miami and Los Angeles – are embracing the surf-casual trend this summer. A beach dress can easily be transformed into a quirky barhopping outfit. Beach-goers are swapping the flip-flops for heels, putting up the hair and rolling up the hemlines for a smooth transition from day to night.
Summer nights provide a lot more freedom when it comes to picking a perfect outfit for a night out on the town. No longer are you restricted to boots, leggings and warm clothing – the full extensive range of the wardrobe is open for browsing! Since the eighties are in mid-revival, animal print is frequently seen roaming the hottest clubs and bars. A simple silk dress in an animal print, combined with tanned legs and high wedges or heels, is the latest New York clubbing ‘uniform’. Straightened, glossy hair and golden hoop earrings complete the sophisticated and exotic look. New York women are at the forefront of the fashion world, and if they’re wearing animal – it’s time for you to embrace the beast.
